Why did the Rolls-Royce Ghost make drivers sick?

As the name suggests, the Rolls-Royce Ghost was designed to be super silent, at least from the inside. But unfortunately, it did the job too well, as it made the test drivers actually slightly ill.

According to Rolls-Royce chief engineer, Jon Simms, the car was actually so quiet from the inside it caused the drivers to become slightly disorientated, and made them quite ill, “bordering on nausea.”

One might think quietness would be welcome in a car, but ‘too much’ quietness is precisely the issue. Take the world’s quietest room as an extreme example, almost everyone who goes in reports feeling a loss of “balance” and finds it “unbearable.”

Thankfully it probably wasn’t a super challenging task to solve, as the engineers changed a few things in terms of design to simply allow more sound to come into the vehicle, thus, stopping the drivers from feeling sick.

In case you wanted to buy one, they are going for around £233,235 as of the 16th of March 2022. Maybe if you tell the salesperson this fact, they might give you a discount…?
