WHY DID PRINCE BACK OUT OF MAKING A SONG WITH MICHAEL JACKSON?
The late, great Prince was invited to collaborate with the late, great Michael Jackson on the song ‘Bad’ – released in September 1987, but Michael had initially planned to duet with Prince, rather than do a solo version.
What an iconic song this would have been – two of the greatest artists of all time making a song together would have been legendary. But let’s take a closer look at why Prince refused to take part.
For those who are unaware, the song starts off with the lyrics, “Your butt is mine”.
Prince said in an interview: “The first line of that song is ‘your butt is mine’. Then I said ‘Who’s going to sing that to who?’ … because you sure aren’t singing that to me, and I sure ain’t singing it to you.”
Can’t say I did not crack up reading that quote, but let it be known that Michael Jackson and Prince were on the path to greatness together, but the butts stopped them.
However, whilst it is clear that Prince may not have gotten along with Jackson when he was alive, it was reported that Prince was “deeply affected” by his passing.
Even though they may not have seen eye-to-eye on things whilst they were both alive, there is no doubt that there was a deep respect between the iconic duo.
