WHY ARE THE MONGOLS KNOWN FOR BEING SO CRUEL?
There are a whole host of reasons as to what makes the Mongols so cruel and, quite frankly, evil. However, I’ve picked out a few stories to best explain just what made them so infamous.
The first one takes place around 1223 at the Battle of Kalka River. It was fought between the Mongolian army of 20,000 and 80,000 men of Rus’ (a Slavic tribe).
The Mongolians won despite the numbers above, and executed the Rus’ prince and the nobles by laying them all on the ground and covering them with a wooden platform. According to various sources, the Mongolians then sat on top of the platform and had a victory feast – thus slowly crushing the men underneath.

Another story relates to the ‘treasure hunt at Termez’. In 1220, Mongolian troops invaded the city of Termez (modern-day Uzbekistan). According to various sources, a woman told invaders that she had swallowed her pearls – which then prompted the soldiers to slice her open.
It was then reported that other soldiers were told to do the same in case similar riches would be found. Barbaric.
The last story relates to the Massacre of Otrar. In 1219, Inalchuq the governor of the city of Otrar (modern-day Uzbekistan) – had provoked Genghis Khan… bad move Inalchuq.
Khan then raided the city, and after 5 months the city was captured by the Mongolians. 100,000 inhabitants were executed, with Inalchuq reportedly having molten silver poured down his neck, eyes, and ears.
There are countless more stories, and no doubt, even more, brutal ones are out there. But either way, there is no denying that the Mongolians were pure evil.
