WHAT IS THE 'GUNSLINGER EFFECT'?

It sounds like this shouldn’t be true at all. But who can argue with science, facts, and of course, numbers?!

The ‘Gunslinger Effect’ is a psychological theory created by Niels Henrik David Bohr which argues that an intentional movement, will always be slower, than a movement done out of reaction or instinct.

As such, if you placed two gunslingers across from one another, Bohr would argue that the person who draws second, will usually win – as his reaction will be quicker, and thus more decisive. But how true is that…?

Well, one study carried out by the University of Birmingham “found that subjects moved 10% faster when reacting, rather than acting with intention.” But the study also found, those acting through reaction, would usually were less accurate.

So whilst it could be argued the Gunslinger who draws second might be quicker, his accuracy would probably take a hit. And probably they would too…
