WHAT HAPPENED WHEN THE CIA RECRUITED A FEMALE ASSASSIN TO MURDER FIDEL CASTRO?

If you’re trying to kill Fidel Castro, you better make sure that your assassin is ready. The CIA didn’t make sure they were ready.

A woman by the name of Marita Lorenz, a German woman who had an affair with none other than Fidel Castro – the former President of Cuba, was given the job of assassinating him.

Turning the clock back to 1960, Marita was given the job of poisoning Fidel, but what went wrong..?

Context is important here, so it’s worth noting 1959, Marita and Fidel met in Cuba, and started a relationship together. Fidel had taken quite a liking to Marita, which would explain her being given the job by the CIA.

Marita moved to New York and Fidel was still in contact with her, and during Fidel’s lusting over Marita, she was given the job.

So what happened on the day? Well. Marita was given two poisoned tablets, one of which could kill you in “30 seconds”.

When Marita met up with Fidel in the hotel, Fidel asked her if she was there to kill him. She essentially reveals what’s going on, and Fidel even passes her his gun and dares her to shoot!

They then slept together, and shortly after that he put his clothes on and left. How differently that day could have turned out.

Who knows if the CIA tried again with another assassin, but all that can be said is there were unsuccessful as Castro lived to 90 years old, and died of natural causes.
