IS IT ILLEGAL IN NEW JERSEY TO WEAR A BULLETPROOF VEST WHILST COMMITTING A CRIME?

But…but… what about if you commit tax fraud in New Jersey whilst wearing a bulletproof vest?! Well. It doesn’t apply.

The New Jersey law only comes into effect when a person commits a specific crime with it on. And to be honest, I can’t imagine tax fraud is rife with people carrying out these acts with bulletproof vests on.

As you can imagine, it comes into action whilst someone is “engaged in the commission of, or an attempt to commit, or flight after committing or attempting to commit murder, manslaughter, robbery, sexual assault, burglary, kidnapping, criminal escape or assault.”

As you can see from the above, there is no mention of tax evasion. So don’t worry about taking off your bulletproof vest for that one.

Further research also shows that New Jersey isn’t the only state to implement such a law. Kentucky, Louisiana and other states have similar laws which say committing similar acts as mentioned above will land you in prison. So if you see anyone who isn’t a police officer wearing one, best stay cautious…!
