DID THE ORIGINAL DRAFTS OF TOY STORY HAVE WOODY AS THE VILLAIN?

It’s hard to imagine Woody as a villain, but yet, that was exactly what those working on Toy Story had to do.

According to various sources, Woody was to be a villain, who would belittle the other characters, and come across as a rude, sarcastic jerk. Which is the complete opposite of what we see today.

One of the early scripts had the following: “What? Am I hearing correctly? You don’t think I was right? Who said your job was to think, spring wiener?” Poor Slinky Dog.

And to confirm that this was actually going to be a ‘thing’, Pixar executive, Ed Catmull said “He was mean. Well, we were discovering—and, at the time, we were trying to figure out how to have a better process. But he was mean.”

From the sounds of things, the vision for the evil Woody wasn’t as great as the Woody we see today. But it’s certainly interesting to think about how a Woody villain would have been for a few films!
