WHAT FAMOUS CELEBRITY WAS ONE OF THE USHERS AT MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.'S FUNERAL?
After Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968, his family decided to carry out the final service at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and a small group of students were chosen to be ushers for the funeral.
One of the students that was chosen to be an usher, was Samuel L. Jackson.
For those unfamiliar with the term usher, an usher is someone who helps guide people to the correct seat at a service, and generally help make sure everything proceeds smoothly.
Samuel L. Jackson took part in a march just four days after the assassination took place which was supporting a garbage workers’ strike. It’s heavily noted that during Jackson’s early years, a great deal of time was spent towards the Black Power movement, but has denied being part of the Black Panther Party. And no doubt, a lot of this was due to the work of Martin Luther King Jr.
A few years late in 1972, his mother sent him packing to LA due to fears about his safety, and that’s where his acting career began to take off.
